Absolute Beauty of Compliance – Works by XiyaDie

I can’t help but be amazed and blown away at the sheer magic of XiyaDie’s talent. His art is unique, though paper-cutting in China is a tradition but no one like him has thought of stuff like this–presenting his life as a Chinese gay man. What a brave guy he is!

If you are in Beijing, go and see it. Be touched by his humble life and amazing art and buy one or two if you can afford.

Me? I can’t come but I’m sharing this to you.

But, I’m hoping that they’ll display this beautiful art in Dashanzi Arts District.

SOLO EXHIBITION
Absolute Beauty of Compliance – Works by XiyaDie

Xiyadie is a farmer from Shanxi province. After migrating to Beijing, he started to live an ecstatic, painful, and sometimes depressive, life as a gay man. During these years, he has created an “autobiography” with his paper-cutting works. They seem especially personal, traditional, and pure when considered against the current social upheavals in China.

On one hand, his art demonstrates a vital separation from western art’s grand narratives or postmodern deconstructions.

On the other hand, while many protest against cultural imperialism with their empty words, he has picked up his scissors, and cut a shimmering path with ease.
