The Garbage Collector
The Garbage Collector

One night, in a windy winter darkness in a narrow streets of one of Beijing Hutongs, my two friends and I were on our way to their flat when we came across this medium of transport among Beijing’s garbage collector.

This kind of transport is actually very common in the hutongs where people collect “usuable” or “sellable” trash from around the city and sell them somewhere to provide food on their table. This transport can actually be used in many purposes. I even hired one like this when I moved to my two previous apartments. It’s cheap and spacious enough for big boxes—unlike the taxi trunks.

I was supposed to ride on the bike but my conscience told me to stop the silliness since the owner was just at the back of this huge cargo and I didn’t ask him permission. He might have thought that I was making fun of the job that gives him hard-earned penny. So, I decided to just pose and Betti was quick enough to click the shutter.
