当今的很多中国同志们谈到中国同志状况，就会谈到同志酒吧和同志网络这两个典型的社会变迁的标志，有人甚至觉得有了两个可以随意猎食的地点社会就已经进步 了，这一点不可否认。可是要想真的实现一个人人平等的公民社会只是去去酒吧看帅哥，网上撩搔撩搔是远远不够的。

我 们需要更大的社会活动空间，我们需要和每 一个人拥有同一样的权利，然而谁在为这些这些权利在努力，谁在为同志们的美好明天呐喊，同志亦凡人制作一期视频，采访到了来自不同地区，国家在中国积极在 做同志平等权利的倡导人士，从20岁到60岁，他们／她们遭遇过各种各样的压制和艰难，但从没放弃，让我们一起听听她们／他们对中国同志未来的畅想，同时 希望每个人都应当积极的加入，为自己的社区和为了一个正真的多元化公民社会献上自己的一片心力。

THE CREAM OF THE QUEER CROP

It’s amazing to see how the Chinese entertainment industry has adapted to the Queer Crowd.  These past few years, bars and disco’s have popped up everywhere and the internet has become a prime tool to pick up fantasy-dates.  Our hunting pastures have definitely expanded.  But does that mean that we’re now the social equals of heterosexual people?  The answer is pretty obvious once we step off the sweaty dancefloors and try to profess our same-sex love to the marriage registry, to our bosses at work, to the adoption agency…

There’s still a long way to go before we can claim to be equal citizens in the Chinese society.  Fortunately, the fight for equal rights is well underway.  In this webcast episode, Queer Comrades highlights 10 people who have been working on the LGBT frontlines for years.  They’re activists from all backgrounds, ages and genders, connected by the common goal of achieving positive change in Chinese society.  We hope they can inspire you to join the movement for a better and truly pluralistic society.

“The Persian Boy”, a famous book written by world-renowned writer of historical novels Mary Renault, has recently been translated into Chinese by Silvano Zheng, an openly gay person from Guangzhou.  The book traces Alexander’s life through the eyes of his male lover Bagoas.

RETROSPECTIVE ON SPANISH GAY FILMS IN THE LAST 50 YEARS

This film series is an historic view of Spanish cinema with homosexuality as a main topic. From the first timid references in the 60’s, avoiding the censorship, to nowadays gay and lesbian films, far from the taboos of the first productions.

On Friday the 2^nd, Instituto Cervantes will host an opening conference about the focus on gay issues in the seventh art. Speakers: Javier Carlos de la Torre (Spanish film director), Wei XiaoGang (Chinese film director), Li Yinhe (Sexologist). After the conference Instituto Cervantes will show one short film of each director.

Synopsis: An homosexual banker falls for a poor boy and follows him into the underworld, full of prostitutes, pimps, criminals… Real life will end up determining the destiny of the main characters.

OCAÑA, RETRAT INTERMITENT (Ocana, an Intermittent Portrait)

(Ventura Pons, 1978)

Synopsis: This documentary shows a portrait of a city (Barcelona), of a time (’70s) and of José Pérez Ocaña, a homosexual painter from Andalucia. Ocana expresses himself as he is, explains his hard life and his opinions of the world. Director Ventura Pons mixes this with scenes of Ocaña’s life in the streets (walking half naked in a well-known street of Barcelona called La Rambla, singing a song in a bar full of people or organizing some kind of drag queen procession). It is an interesting documentary of Ocaña recounting the repression he suffered in his village for being gay, his first sexual experiences and the special relationship with the greatest love of his life who died suddenly.

Synopsis: Yolanda is a Nightclub singer who, after seeing her boyfriend dies of an overdose and fearing the police, seeks refuge in a convent that saves women from the streets. These off-beat gay nuns on dope include a heroin using abbess who loves Yolanda; Sor Rata de Callejón who writes romance novels under a pseudonym; Sor Perdida who is obsessed with housekeeping and raising a tiger in the convent yard; and Sor Estiércol who designs fabulous fashions and is in love with the local priest. They plan an evening extravaganza starring Yolanda to celebrate the abbess’s birthday in order to convince their wealthy patron not to abandon them.

Júlia will have to chose between her husband —a respected and influential reviewer, her lover —the attractive programmer of National Public Theatre and the unpredictable female writer of the play about Madame de Sévigné.

 第四届亚洲区国际同志大会原本计划在2010年3月26到28号在印度尼西亚的泗水召开，结果各国会议代表却遭到了当地原教旨主义伊斯兰组织（FPI）的威胁，大会组委会在最后时刻被迫取消了会议。 同志亦凡人也是远赴印尼作为亚洲150位会议代表之一，我们从混乱的会议现场带回来了最真实的画面，同时从我们的影像中，你们将会看到当今亚洲同志活动家面对的艰难现实。

                                   – Philippine Transgender Activist at the Surabaya Conference

The 4^th Asian Regional Lesbian, Gay, Transgender and Intersex Association (ILGA) conference scheduled to be held on March 26 – 28, 2010  in Surabaya, Indonesia, ended before it could start.  Conference participants were threatened by religious fundamentalist lead by the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI), and the conference organizers were forced to cancel the conference.  Queer Comrades was among the 150 participants who travelled from all around Asia to take part in the conference.  We bring you back compelling images from the conference confusion, and testify in this documentary about the toughness of Asian LGBT activists.

本片根据真人真事改编。Bobby是一个善良、温顺、虔诚的少年，他有爱他的父母奶奶和哥哥妹妹。然而在他向家人坦白自己有同性恋倾向后，一切改变了。Bobby的母亲Mary深信圣经关于同性恋会下地狱的训诫，想尽办法矫正儿子，却没有意识到Bobby的痛苦与日俱增。她望着Bobby一字一句的说：我不要有一个同性恋儿子。Bobby伤心的离开家，开车到高速路的桥头，噙着泪水纵身跳下…

Prayers For Bobby                    Director: Russel Mulcahy, USA 2009, 89 min                            2010 GLAAD Media Award

 This film is based on the true story of Mary Griffith, a devout Christian who raises her children with the conservative teachings of the Presbyterian Church.  When her son Bobby confides to his older brother he may be gay, life changes for the entire family.  Mary believes God can cure him of what she considers his ‘sin’ and persuades Bobby to pray harder and seek solace in church activities in hopes of changing him.  Bobby grows increasingly withdrawn and depressed, and is ultimately driven to suicide. 

Faced with the tragedy, Mary begins to question her faith when she receives no answers from her pastor concerning her devastating loss.  Through her long and emotional journey, Mary slowly reaches out to the gay community and discovers unexpected support from a very unlikely source.

The first ever Mr. Gay China Competition!  An event to show off the fashionable and sunny side of gayness to Chinese society!  A contest filled with hot body guys!  The announcement of the first ever Mr. Gay China Pageant sent flaming ripples throughout the gay community. 

The excitement was soon gone however when the event was cancelled just hours before it was supposed to start.  Suddenly, the perspectives of the gay movement went from sunny to bleak – the cancellation meant a blow to all queers on the mainland.  The mainstream media immediately jumped into action and tried to find an explanation for the debacle: did the organizers cancel the event themselves? Were they trying to cheat all the people who bought a ticket to the show? Why was the police there and where did they take the organizers?

Queer Comrades brings you the full story. From the early preparations to the final blow-out, “Comrades, you’ve worked hard” shows you the wild rollercoaster ride of contrasting emotions that was the Mr. Gay China Competition. 

Can entertainment exist without politics? Has the Chinese gay movement taken a step forwards or backwards?  We leave it up to you to decide…

Start the year of the tiger with a queer film blast!

Queer Comrades goes up close and personal with the hottest Asian queer directors in “Gaylywood”, a documentary capturing the festive atmosphere of the 2009 Beijing Queer Film Festival.  Afterwards, we continue the Asian film fest with a screening of “Soundless Wind Chime”, the international queer film revelation of last year, followed by an extra special behind-the-scenes video. To maximize your enjoyment, actor and Chinese celebrity Lü Yulai will be present for a Q&A session.

“Soundless Wind Chime” is the poetic journey of Ricky (Lü Yulai), searching for the lost soul and the past of his deceased Swiss lover Pascal.  The film shows a battle of love, lust, reality, memory and illusions and the grief everybody bears every day. Ricky, a new Chinese immigrant in Hong Kong, and Pascal, a 27 year old Swiss rebel escaped from his traditional boundaries, meet in Hong Kong.  After being abused by his roommate, Pascal moves in with Ricky.  Although Ricky makes it easier for Pascal to immerse himself into local culture, life is never easy for these rootless hearts.  They are tortured by the dilemma of whether their relationship is built on true love or only dependency on each other and the fear of being lonely. Without even saying goodbye, Pascal passes away in an accident.  Ricky carries his grief and sorrows to Switzerland, looking for hints of Pascal in a nameless village.  When he visits a beautiful thrift store, Ricky meets Ueli, a man that looks identical to Pascal but has a totally different personality…

 Known as Femmes in the West, the Chinese prefer to call them P, short for “laoPo” or “wife”. The P-identity comes with pearls, make-up, girly clothes and giggles. In heterocountry Ps are seen as lost girls who can be brought back to the straight side. In lesboland they’re seen as demure dykes looking for Tomboy girlfriends. Why this label for lipstick-slinging lesbians? Why presume that a feminine lesbian will automatically go for a butch one? Why use heterosexual rules to define homosexual relationships? In this documentary Queer Comrades takes you into the fold: together with a panel of expert dykes, we’ll clear up some of your lesbian labelling mysteries. P prepared!

“婆”的告白

“婆”顾名思义是老婆的意思，可是在这里我们说到的“婆”却具有多重的身份，女性主义外形的标志，性角色的暗含，同时最重要的就是她们不是男人们的老婆。有人说“婆”的出柜才是女同志运动中很重要的成功标志，同时才能带动普通大众对女同志以往男人婆形象认知的颠覆。然而对男同志来说又是何尝不是呢，如果阿汤哥可以抛妻弃子勇敢出柜，男同阳刚一面就无须质疑了。可是话说回来，何谓女性化，为何阳刚论，为什么我们爱恋了同性后，还要纠缠在异性恋单调的性气质对立中讨论个你死我活，今天让我们听听来自东北，澳门，新疆，北京和哥本哈根的“婆”们，在女性妩媚柔弱外表下，在遭受异性和同性双重霸权压迫下的她们，在同志亦凡人的这个纪录片中铿锵告白。 

MEN AND WOMEN

Men and Women follows the travels of a young gay man, Xiao Bo, who goes to Beijing in search of a job. There he is taken in by Qing Jie, who not only gives him a home in her apartment but also a job in her clothing store. She tries to set Xiao Bo up with the girl A Meng, but Xiao Bo resists and eventually moves out when he is assaulted by Qing Jie’s husband. He moves in with his friend Chong Chong, with whom a romantic relationship is kindled. Qing Jie meanwhile discovers that she may have feelings for A Meng and decides to leave her husband.

男男女女

暖冬，小博由外省来北京打工,服装店女老板青姐喜欢他，让他住进家中。她与丈夫大康的关系秀冷淡，却热心地为小博介绍给好友阿梦认识，期望他们能够成为恋人。但是，结果阿梦发现小博不喜欢她。青姐也决定离开丈夫，搬到阿梦那里与她同居。 在青姐家里，大康企图强暴小博。小博反抗成功，辞去工作，来到同乡冲冲的家中借宿。 冲冲是公厕文学一级作家，他正在创办《灿烂公厕》杂志。与他同居的同性朋友归归自办了一个电台节目，叫做“公厕时空”。小博出现后，吸引了冲冲的注意力。在一个早晨，归归发现冲冲与小博睡到了同一张床上。归归收拾行装离开冲冲的家…

“Homophobia” is a non-rational objection to and in some cases hatred of homosexuality and homosexuals.  A few rather prominent members of society are afflicted with this terrible disease: they include ex-president George W. Bush, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Pope Julius I.  Through their politics and posturing, these men have used their positions of power to stunt the development of an open and diverse human society.  High time for a cure!  In this documentary of Queer Comrades, the folks from Beijing’s Gender Health Education Institute and Aibai.cn share some of their research on the homophobia-front and reveal some of their medicine: a round of respect for others, a good dose of being open to diversity, and Good Good Study, Day Day Up!

<EAST PALACE, WEST PALACE>

Director: Zhang Yuan, China, 1996, 94 min

East Palace, West Palace is the first Mainland Chinese movie ever with an explicitly homosexual theme.  The title of the movie derives from 2 parks near the Forbidden City, notorious hangouts for the Beijing gay community during the 90s.  Ah Lan, a gay writer, is arrested during one of the cops’ frequent raids on the parks. During the interrogation, Ah Lan tells his life story to officer Xiao Shi.  Many of his tales seem designed to provoke Xiao Shi into challenging his own sexuality.

<东宫西宫> 故事片

导演：张元，中国，1996，94分钟

东宫西宫是中国大陆第一个同志电影。北京某公园是同性恋晚上幽会的场所，该公园附近的派出所民警小史值夜班值到无聊时，会到公园里抓一两个同性恋来审一审，在他们交待自己的种种“活动”时，他会打骂一番以消闲解闷。某晚又去抓人时，欲拒还迎的阿兰被他铐回值班室。审问过程中，小史的言行不乏对阿兰的歧视和侮辱，但阿兰丝毫不为自己是同性恋难为情，反不动声色地讲起过往经历，并用死囚与刽子手的故事表达他对小史的爱恋，慢慢地，小史发现他的心中原来也藏有一座断背山。
