In December 2011, the annual analysis of sex and gender events in China took place at the Beijing Xizang Building.  The analysis took the form of tripartite talks between experts, journalists and people involved in the events.  11 cases involving sex, gender and sexuality rights were analyzed.

At the end of October 2011, the 4^th Sino-Nordic Gender and Women’s Studies Conference took place in Aalborg, Denmark.  For the first time, the conference launched a forum on Queer Theory in China.

In the autumn of 2011 we successfully held the first Queer University training.  During the coming 2 years, we’ll keep on developing similar trainings.  If you’re interested in becoming a student at our Queer University, keep checking our Queer Comrades website for info on our upcoming trainings.

As a land-locked, former Soviet satellite, Mongolia has long remained unknown and mysterious to most of the world.  Recently, the Beijing LGBT Center invited Mongolian LGBT activist and ILGA-Asia Representative Suki to talk about the LGBT movement in Mongolia.

Check out what went down at the infamous 2011 SMUT Haloween Party.  The party called out to all the ghosts & goblins, the drag queens, the ferociously fierce, the belly dancers, the dead-sexy and the boisterously queer to shake booty to Halloween tunes.

Initiated by the Aibai Culture & Education Center and the Beijing Gender Health Education Institute, and organized by a consortium of social organizations, the first annual China Rainbow Media Awards announced the winners on 9 December in Beijing. They include Southern Weekend & Phoenix TV (LGBT Salute Award) and Li Yinhe (Special Contribution Award). A host of well-known scholars and media figures attended the Award Ceremony.

Unfortunately not all celebrities were able to make it to the Awards Ceremony.  They made sure however to record their messages of support for the China Rainbow Media Awards and for China’s LGBT community in this video.  Enjoy!

The media are the windows through which people look at society. For many years, Chinese mass media presented negative or distorted views of the gay community. The misleading reporting strengthened social prejudices and discrimination towards gay people and affected the living circumstances of millions of Chinese homosexuals.

For this reason, several Mainland Chinese LGBT organizations jointly organized the China Rainbow Media Awards. This annual event independently and impartially honors media institutions and individuals who provide objective and fair reports on LGBT topics. The event encourages mainland Chinese media to provide objective, positive and thorough reporting on LGBT topics. The organizers hope to build up strong LGBT communities and improve the living conditions of millions of LGBT people and to promote a diverse and harmonious society.

Dr. Li Yinhe, a well-known sociologist who spoke out many times on homosexuality and who submitted several proposals to legalize same-sex marriage, was awarded with the Special Contribution Award by the China Rainbow Media Awards organizers.  Unfortunately, she couldn’t be present at the ceremony, but she recorded this video expressing her emotions and pride at receiving the Award.

On Thursday 1 December, Feizan, Aibai, the Beijing Gender Health Education Institute and Tongxing Working Group held an event on the topic of Fighting AIDS & Eliminating Discrimination.  At the event, the China AIDS Walk, a large-scale public welfare project, formally launched its promotional campaign.

Guests included Li Hu, ambassador for the China AIDS Walk, and Da Wei, spokesperson for the Tongxing Working Group, who came to share their life story with the audience.
