It’s often called the world’s oldest profession, but probably also the world’s most controversial industry. Prostitution, after being the subject of countless literary titles, remains as little-understood by outsiders as ever. Compared to their female counterparts, male prostitutes tend to face even greater prejudice and pressure, which have forced them to live on the periphery of a peripheral society. Author Tong Ge, our guest for the episode, decided to record hitherto untold stories of so-called money boys and has included their most personal accounts in an enlightening volume on China’s male sex workers.
