DESCRIPTION:CANCELLATION NOTICE: \nDear Friends\, \nWe regret to inform you that the IDAHOT event “Get Connected” that was scheduled to take place on Saturday 17 May has to be cancelled due to reasons beyond our control. \nWe apologize for any inconvenience this might have caused you\,and thank you for your understanding. \n  \n \n  \nQueer Comrades\, Beijing Gender Health Education Institute and  \nThe Netherlands Embassy in Beijing\, \n  \ninvite you to attend the IDAHOT Event \n  \nGET CONNECTED!\n  \nThe Netherlands Embassy in Beijing\, Queer Comrades and the Beijing Gender Health Education Institute are holding an event in connection with the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT) on Saturday 17 May\, 15:00 – 18:00 pm. \nIDAHOT raises awareness of discrimination and challenges faced by Lesbian\, Gay\, Bisexual and Transgendered (LGBT) people. Our theme this year is “Get Connected!”. \nThe internet\, which came to China 20 years ago\, opened up a new chapter for the Chinese LGBT movement. It unlocked the gates of communication\, and now there are thousands of ways to find love\, sex and friendship on the web. But do we really know each other? Can we only be LGBT online? Is our offline reality keeping pace with our online fantasies? \nToday\, we invite you to log off. Join us in a reflection on our online behavior\, get to know the people behind the profile pics\, and get inspired to take part in changing LGBT realities both on- and offline! \nThe event is hosted by and will take place at the Netherlands Embassy in Beijing. It will consist of a screening of the documentary “Surfing for Love” produced by the LGBT organization Queer Comrades\, a panel discussion including Geng Le (founder of danlan.org and CEO of the mobile dating app Blued)\, Yuan Yuan (queer artist\, documentary filmmaker\, and founder of an online lesbian dating group)\, and Xiao A (founder of lesbian dating app Lesdo).  This will be followed by an informal networking event where you are encouraged to get to know the Beijing LGBT organizations and their work.  The documentary will be provided with Chinese – English subtitles\, the panel discussion will take place in the Chinese language without translation. \nAs seating is limited\, please confirm your attendance by writing an email to Jackie.bghei@gmail.com. With this event\, the Tongxinyuan Qinyinghui partner up with the China AIDS Walk to challenge all LGBT people to think of what they can give to society.   \nThe China AIDS Walk is the first large-scale initiative in Mainland China to invite citizens to take active part in fighting HIV/AIDS. It is a fully supported\, 7-day bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles to raise money and awareness in the fight against HIV/AIDS.  Participants use 1 year for fundraising – each participant who raises 3000 USD or more is eligible to participate in the bike ride which takes place every year during the first week of June. \nIn 2012\, more than 2\,200 bicyclists and 550 volunteer “roadies” completed their seven-day journey toward from San Francisco to Los Angeles as participants in AIDS/LifeCycle. Hailing from nearly every state and 11 countries\, they have raised a record $12\,600\,000 for the HIV/AIDS services of the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center and San Francisco AIDS Foundation. \n【On the Road】 \nIn the spring of 2010\, 2 Chinese LGBT activists set off from Beijing to the glamorous city of Los Angeles\, where they were invited to take part in a leadership development program of the LA Gay & Lesbian Center. It was the start of an incredible journey…\nThey met all the amazing people powering the programs of the Center\, they learned how the LA Gay & Lesbian Center grew up to be the world’s largest LGBT organization\, they encountered stars using their glitz for the good cause and they participated in a truly life-changing bicycle ride to end AIDS: the AIDS Life Cycle.\nTheir travels are captured in this documentary – watch\, enjoy and be inspired! \n【China AIDS Walk】 \nThe China AIDS Walk project was launched by the Beijing Gender Health Education Institute. Driven by a collaborative network of different organizations\, the China AIDS Walk raises awareness about HIV/AIDS and raises funds for social projects working on HIV/AIDS issues throughout its different project phases\, including mobilization\, participatory fundraising\, training\, promotion and walking on the Great Wall. \nWe believe that social progress is achieved not by a few people doing much\, but by many people doing a little. Adopting the “Friends Ask Friends” (FAF) fundraising model\, the China AIDS Walk engages the help of every participant to distribute HIV/AIDS related knowledge and promote the ideas behind the China AIDS Walk.
